Sam's house in Portland has these interesting rafter ends. The historic house was designed by John Calvin Stevens and these have been on their for a long time

Sam May's lovely wife Alexandra, grand daughter to Buckminster Fuller and an artist and scholar and mom her own self, greeted us at the dock in Portland and showed us around her gardens.
